In a shocking trade proposal with the Yankees, the Cardinals acquire a huge haul.
The reconstruction that the St. Louis Cardinals ought to have started a few years ago is already underway. In an attempt to turn the squad around and win important games, the front staff has kept the veterans on the roster. This hasn’t been the case for St. Louis, which is now slated to rebuild.
The majority of analysts predict that the Cardinals will rebuild in a conventional manner, trading their veterans and adding a fresh group of prospects. In a recent blockbuster trade proposal with the New York Yankees, Redbird Rants’ Josh Jacobs suggested moving many players, including Yankees rookie pitcher Luis Gil,
to the Cardinals.
The Cardinals of St. Louis get: RHP Chase Hampton, RHP Luis Gil, and OF Mayea Brando RHP Ryan Helsley and UTL Brendan Donovan are acquired by the New York Yankees. “The combination of Gil, Hampton, and Mayea may be enough to convince the Cardinals to let go of their two highly prized assets,” wrote Jacobs. Even if the Yankees are getting two great players in exchange,
it is unlikely that they would be ready to part with Luis Gil in this transaction. For New York to be ready to trade their finest young starting pitcher without getting one in exchange, their pitching pipeline is just too weak at the top. This deal could make sense in terms of value,
but New York won’t agree to move Gil unless it adds one or two more starters in free agency. Instead of attempting to acquire experienced major leaguers, St. Louis is more likely to adopt a more conventional strategy of sending guys like Helsley to competitors for huge prospect hauls.
