Following the Newcastle United arrival’s first goal to savor, Matt Ritchie lays down an enticing Portsmouth aim.
Matt Ritchie has set out to improve Pompey’s chances of winning the championship by bringing back the offensive.
After scoring his first Blues goal, the Gosport player is convinced that his veteran status has no bearing on the goal.
Ritchie had a memorable afternoon after scoring the first goal in the 2-2 draw with Swansea, giving him a moment he had always wanted.
Ritchie, who graduated into the first squad as a young player, never scored a senior goal in ten games.
The moment arrived in Wales thirteen years after he left in 2011, when the 35-year-old scored a goal in the twenty-fifth minute after Josh Murphy’s cross.
When he was a young player going through the academy, Ritchie quipped that the goal he’d played over his head wasn’t the close-range finish.
He credited the goal to Murphy, who is now aiming for more of the same going forward.
After a slow start, Ritchie’s form is picking up speed, and the Newcastle United newcomer is expected to provide goals and assists.
He’s still in his locker, confident.
“When I was growing up, the goal didn’t look like that—a sliding tackle to put the ball in the net!” he added.
Naturally, I’m thrilled to have scored, and I’ve always considered it.
However, my main feeling is actually annoyance at the game being drawn when we were ahead by two goals.
Yes, I believe that Nico Schmidt must be considered in the end since he has made several incredible stops, and we conclude that the outcome was likely fair.
Other than stating that I was at the right place at the right time—and most likely where I should have been—I really can’t claim any credit. It’s nice because I was able to sneak it into the back of the net.
For me, goals and assists have always been major motivators. Numbers were crucial to my career in the past, and they likely are now much more important.
“It doesn’t matter to me that I’m 35 now instead of 25.” I still have a tremendous appetite and want to continue hitting respectable numbers.
