FINISHED DEAL: Today, the Detroit Lions officially sign DL from Seattle’s practice squad and waive WR.
Allen Park, Michigan To strengthen their injured linebacking corps, the Detroit Lions have agreed to sign Kwon Alexander.
His representative, Drew Rosenhaus, verified the deal on Friday.
After starting two games and playing in another as a reserve for the Broncos this season, the 30-year-old inside linebacker has been a member of Denver’s practice squad.
Due to Malcolm Rodriguez’s knee injury in Thursday’s victory over Chicago, which coach Dan Campbell felt was severe, Detroit is in dire need of linebacker assistance.
Rodriguez was covering for Alex Anzalone, an inside linebacker who is likely to be sidelined for at least another month due to a fractured arm and is currently on injured reserve. Due to injury, veteran linebackers Jalen Reeves-Maybin and Derrick Barnes are also out.
Alexander may have to make his Detroit debut against the Packers on Thursday night when the NFC-leading Lions (11-1) play Green Bay (9-3).
With New Orleans in 2020, when Campbell was the Saints’ assistant coach, Alexander undoubtedly has a wealth of expertise.
With Tampa Bay, New Orleans, San Francisco, the New York Jets, Pittsburgh, and Denver, he has started 90 of 107 games.
In three games this season against the Broncos, Alexander had eight tackles and caused one fumble. 13 1/2 sacks are among the 448 total tackles recorded by the former LSU standout.
