As Eintracht Frankfurt continues to shape its squad for the upcoming campaign, the club has made another statement signing in Swedish international Rebecka Blomqvist. The 27-year-old striker arrives from VfL Wolfsburg and has signed a contract through 2028, becoming the club’s third summer addition after Sophia Winkler and Erëleta Memeti.
Blomqvist’s arrival marks a significant move for Frankfurt as it gears up to compete on multiple fronts, both domestically and in Europe.
A Proven Goalscorer with European Pedigree
Blomqvist brings a wealth of experience to Frankfurt’s attacking unit. During her five-year stint with Wolfsburg, she made 79 appearances and scored consistently across all competitions, including 24 games in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Despite suffering a serious ACL injury in late 2023, she made a successful return at the start of the 2024/25 season, contributing three goals and four assists in the Champions League alone, and making a further 16 Bundesliga appearances.
Before her time in Germany, Blomqvist played a key role in Göteborg FC’s rise in Swedish football, culminating in a historic league title in 2020. Internationally, she continues to be a regular in the Swedish national team setup, helping the squad reach the UEFA Women’s Nations League Final Four and vying for a place in the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025.
A Strategic Move for Blomqvist
Speaking on her transfer, Blomqvist highlighted Frankfurt’s growing stature as a key motivator behind the switch:
“I am very happy to become part of Eintracht Frankfurt for the new season. I’m looking forward to the city, the club, and the team. Frankfurt has always been a tough opponent, and I sensed that something special is developing here. I want to bring my strengths into the team and believe we can achieve a lot, both nationally and internationally.”
Her decision underscores Frankfurt’s growing reputation as an emerging force in women’s football, especially with the club’s push for deeper runs in both the Frauen-Bundesliga and European competitions.
Praise from the Club
Eintracht Frankfurt’s leadership is confident Blomqvist will play a key role in the squad’s evolution.
Technical director Katharina Kiel noted:
“Rebecka brings not just skill and flexibility in attack, but also invaluable experience. Her football intelligence and scoring instinct fit seamlessly into our game. Beyond the pitch, she’s a positive influence and a role model for others.”
Head coach and sporting director Niko Arnautis echoed those sentiments:
“She adds pace, versatility, and international quality. Whether leading the line, playing off the front, or out wide, she gives us another offensive option. With a demanding schedule ahead, including extended Bundesliga commitments and European aspirations, Rebecka’s style and personality make her an ideal fit.”
Looking Ahead
Eintracht Frankfurt’s signing of Blomqvist signals both ambition and intent. With a rejuvenated and experienced forward now in their ranks, the club looks well-positioned to challenge the Frauen-Bundesliga elite and make noise on the continental stage.
As the 2025 season approaches, Frankfurt fans have every reason to be excited—with Rebecka Blomqvist leading the charge, the future looks bright.
